Getting Your Geographic Bearings

Northwest Arkansas is made up of two main counties: Benton County and Washington County. The four big, thriving cities – Bentonville and Rogers in Benton County, and Fayetteville and Springdale in Washington County, contain most of the available jobs, housing, entertainment, and shopping. But there are also some smaller cities a few miles further – such as Bella Vista, Prairie Grove, Siloam Springs, and Farmington – that offer charming small-town vibes and country-fresh air.

A Delightful Array of School Districts and Colleges

There are four main public school districts, which include Bentonville Schools, Rogers Public Schools, Springdale Public Schools, and Fayetteville Public Schools, as well as Haas Hall Academy, a free, open-enrollment charter school in each main city, plus Ozark Catholic Academy, a recently founded private school situated centrally among all four main cities. If you or your children are interested in post-secondary education, the University of Arkansas – the center of higher education in Arkansas for almost 150 years – is located here in Fayetteville, and Northwest Arkansas Community College has its main campus in Rogers.

Recreation and Entertainment Opportunities Abound

Northwest Arkansas is home to the prestigious Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the Walton Arts Center – which entertains the masses with concerts, plays, symphonies, and other musical or theatrical groups – as well as an impressive assortment of world-class golf courses, shopping malls, nature trails, and refreshing state parks.
