How much Experience Should my Real Estate Agent have?

Finding a place to call home can be stressful and anxiety-ridden. You might doubt yourself or don’t know where to start. The first thing you want to do is make sure you have a good team next to you. Perhaps you do have someone by your side, and they could be making matters more stressful…That is why you want to make sure you have the right real estate agent with the right amount of experience.

In growing areas, there can be a boom of agents. Agents can be as young as 18 or 19, depending on your state. Agents have to pass the real estate license exam to qualify to buy and sell the property to you. You want to make sure to meet your agent or have plenty of calls or texts to ensure you can trust them.

Some agents join the National Association of Realtors (NAR). If your agent is part of the NAR, they are more aware of the housing market and information about it. The NAR also holds agents to an ethics code.

“Members of NAR are expected to uphold a particular ethics code, so membership in the group helps your customers build confidence in your abilities,” according to Indeed.com.

When choosing your agent, you should make sure to look for qualities such as being a good communicator, thinking outside the box, being organized, and problem solves. These qualities will ensure that you feel comfortable and find a home that is right for you.

Do your research on the company you want to be with. How long have they been in the industry? What do reviews say? Do they seem like the type of people who want the best for you and not their pockets? Ask yourself this to find a perfect fit.

You should also look for red flags so you know what to avoid, such as:

Red Flags in a Real Estate Agent

- Your agent should be able to meet you in person. If they are claiming to always be “out of town,” you should be aware that they could be scamming you.

- If the property owner or agent is asking for your financial information right from the start and pushing you to do things you do not feel comfortable with, do not trust them.
